Rail Live 2017

We’re really proud to have designed and built the Rail Live 2017 website for the Rail Alliance. If you’ve not heard of it, Rail Live is Europe’s biggest outdoor rail show, featuring over 300 exhibitors from some of the biggest names in the rail industry. The two-day event will be held between 21st and 22nd June 2017, and will include seminars, presentations of products and services in a real rail setting. The event attracts 6,000 visitors annually, and is open to both rail industry professionals and the public alike. If you’re interested in attending, check out the brand new Rail Live 2017 website for further information.

In terms of the website build, the spec called for a robust, flexible content management system (CMS) that could be used to list details of the hundreds of exhibitors, and would provide an easy way to update exhibitor information and add new exhibitors as they register. For this reason and more we proposed to build the website in WordPress, which is probably the most popular and best supported CMS in the world. Being a bespoke build, we were free to create our own high quality website design using Adobe Photoshop CC, which we then ported across to WordPress by creating a custom theme. We then built in the required functionality piece by piece, including the intuitive ‘exhibitor listing’ function – not only does this list information on each exhibitor split out into categories, but by simply ticking the ‘featured exhibitor’ box in the website admin, the website can automatically promote featured exhibitors throughout the website.

The website also features comprehensive enquiry forms, using ‘conditional logic’ to change the fields on the form depending on what information has already been entered, as well as a cost calculator that gives potential exhibitors an example cost of their admission based on the size of the plot required, which is entered on the form using a simple drop-down menu system. You can see the enquiry form here on the Rail Live 2017 website.

One other little feature we really like is the live countdown on the homepage, which shows the number of weeks, days and hours until Rail Live 2017 kicks off!

If you are interested in any of the features mentioned in this case study, or would like further information about what we can do, please get in touch and we’ll be happy to discuss your requirements in detail.
